Course Description

Preaching, in its various forms and contexts, is both indispensable in the life of the local church, and the weighty privilege of ministers of the word.

This introductory course on preaching follows Haddon Robinson’s 10-steps of preparing an expository sermon, anchored by Rev Dr Desmond Soh and delivered by recorded videos. We also explore topics such as rhetoric, communication and presentation skills, and preaching for specific occasions such as devotionals and wakes. You will get to learn from a variety of preachers and styles, including the experiences of BGST's faculty (Dr Lai Pak Wah, Dr Quek Tze Ming, and Mr Hor Guo Yi).

In line with BGST's unique emphasis, we trust that these skills will be transferable beyond preaching, into presentations that you deliver in the workplace as well.

Students taking this course (both audit and credit) will be expected to prepare and record themselves preaching a sermon, which will be used for class feedback.

Knowledge of how to study and interpret the bible is mandatory and will be assumed during this course.

*Strongly encouraged: Completed HE101 or its equivalent.
