This course is designed to acquaint participants with the strategies, opportunities, challenges, and obstacles Paul encountered in his ministry during his Second Missionary Journey in the regions of Macedonia and Achaia, now known as Greece. We will examine the historical, cultural, geographical, and religious contexts of Paul’s life and ministry by tracing this route through Neapolis, Philippi, Thessalonica, Berea, Athens, Corinth, and the island of Crete.
We will also investigate the connection between archaeological discoveries and selected biblical passages related to Paul’s ministry in Greece according to Acts 16–18, Philippians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians, 1 & 2 Corinthians, and Titus, showing how a proper understanding of the historical, cultural, and political background of the 1st Century AD can help us be better interpreters of the Scripture. There will also be reflections on how we can appropriately apply what we have learnt in the church and the marketplace.
