Credit Course students are required to complete all the course assignments by the stated deadline. They will receive grades that are transferable to any BGST postgraduate programmes.


Audit students do not have to fulfil the assignment requirements. However, they are encouraged to do class exercises and assignments to get the maximum benefit from the courses. They will not receive grades that are transferable to BGST Postgraduate Programmes.

Course Description

Whether we like it or not, AI is transforming our work and lives rapidly. What does this mean for our spiritual growth and Christian ministry? What pitfalls should we avoid? In this course, we shall not only consider how AI engines work, but also the ways they shape our spiritual lives, our relationship with others, and our understanding of God and His world.


The benefits of AI for ministry will also be considered, from sermon and teaching preparation, to evangelism, pastoral care and administration (feel free to add or revise). Finally, we shall discuss the major ethical issues regarding AI usage and the role that Christians can play in meditating them.
The course’s aim is to help you leverage AI for the flourishing of the Church while avoid the problems related to AI usage.

Lecturer

Revd Dr Pete Philips

Lecturer

Revd Dr Pete Phillips is Lecturer and Director of the Centre for Digital Theology, Mission and Practice at Cliff College, and the Chair of Faith and Order Committee of the UK Methodist Church. He is also a pastor in the Thames Valley Circuit, serving two growing London churches. Dr Philips teaches internationally on Faith and AI in Ukraine and Hong Kong, and served as member of the UK government’s initial Faith and AI Symposium in 2023. He has also published extensively on the subject, and is, more recently, an editor of the Oxford Handbook Digital Theology.
