Course Description

This course examines the role of pastoral care in supporting individuals with mental health challenges, focusing on spiritual guidance, emotional support, and ethical approaches in diverse contexts. It explores both practical and theological implications for understanding and responding to complex mental health issues.

By the end of the course, students will gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between mental health and spirituality, develop skills in crisis intervention and pastoral counseling, and learn to recognize ethical boundaries in mental health care.

Instructor

Bishop Steven Abbarow, the Bishop of the Diocese of West Malaysia, has been a BEcons (University of Malaysia, 1985), an MDiv (Seminari Theoloji Malaysia, 1989), a MTheol (South East Asia Graduate School of Theology, 2002), and a DMin (Perkins Divinity School of Southern Methodist University, 2016). He is a certified Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Supervisor and serves on the Inter-Anglican Standing Commission on Unity, Faith, and Order (IASCUFO) as well as the Global South Fellowship of Anglicans (GSFA).
