Communication Skills for Preaching MS223-SF0-24-S1
This course will enable seasoned preachers to embody and convey God’s Word effectively. {1.5 credits, elective} #MS223-SF0-24-S1
Engaging 21st-century listeners through preaching is an arduous task due to reasons such as information overload, shorter attention span and diverse learning styles. Abstract, dull, and unengaging preaching of God’s Word are like seeds that fall on hard soil, quickly snatched by the birds before it penetrates the ground and sprouts (Jeff Arthurs). Yet “God took on flesh, became embodied. Jesus used his body to speak, teach, heal, walk, eat, embrace, listen, sleep, die and rise. God has called us to preach, and preaching is [thus] an embodied art, ... Paying attention to how our bodies help or hinder as we preach the gospel is significant for our ministries” (Hulst).
